Muscle Energy Technique (MET) is a gentle form of manual therapy that restores range of motion and decreases pain by using a series of muscle contractions. The therapist will passively position the patient at the motion barrier. While the therapist holds the patient in this position, the patient will actively resist the therapist’s hold in the direction opposite of the motion barrier. These active isometric muscle contractions are known to relax and lengthen muscles as well as reset skeletal alignment.
