Developed in the 1950s by Dr. Lawrence Jones, Strain Counterstrain (SCS) is used to treat a myriad of musculoskeletal and neuromuscular disorders. Most human tissue (i.e. muscle, fascia, nerve, artery, vein, lymphatic vessel) is contractile in nature and therefore has the ability to contract and relax. SCS is a gentle manual facilitation that shortens or compresses the dysfunctional tissue towards comfort or ease to reduce the tone of that dysfunctional tissue, thereby diminishing muscle pain. Anyone can benefit from this technique as it reduces pain and minimizes swelling and muscle guarding to aid in faster and more complete recovery.
