MEET DR. AMY

Dr. Amy Pemberton (formerly Dr. Amy Fox), born and raised in beautiful Spokane, WA began her physical therapy journey long before deciding to make it her profession. As a multi-sport athlete in high school, she was plagued with various injuries that gave her first hand experience with rehabilitation as a patient. Amy was positively impacted by the physical therapists who helped her return to the sports she enjoyed. Through her own experience with rehab, Amy developed a special interest in the body’s ability to heal itself when properly equipped with the right resources.

Amy earned her Bachelors in Exercise Science in 2010 and her Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2013, both from Eastern Washington University. Since graduating, Dr. Amy has further developed her manual skills by completing a nine month certification in craniosacral therapy (CCST). She has also completed a ten month fellowship in Applied Functional Science (FAFS) from the Gray Institute making her a biomechanics expert.

Her treatment philosophy is that health in the human body is expressed through motion and that when sickness, injury or trauma occurs, the body loses its ability to express this inherent motion. Dr. Amy works with her patients to restore the body’s internal motion so that her clients can move efficiently in their external environments. She believes she can best serve her patients when viewing them as a whole unit and partnering with them to create functional, individualized treatment programs that assist the body’s own healing capacities.

Dr. Amy’s passion for movement, fascination with the human body, and special interest in a whole body treatment approach inspire her to pursue an active and nutritious lifestyle of her own. She enjoys exercise, hiking, skiing, snow shoeing, paddle boarding, basketball, anything in the great outdoors, traveling and spending quality time with her husband Ryan along with church friends. Her other ambitions include becoming bilingual in Spanish, relearning to play the piano, having children someday, and gaining her private pilot’s license.

HOW IT ALL BEGAN

The idea of a holistic clinic that tends to the needs of the whole person – body, soul and spirit was birthed when I was attending Bethel’s School of Supernatural Ministry in Redding, California. I saw and experienced miracles first hand – people being healed of cancer, deaf ears opening, lame walking and blind eyes opened all through the power of prayer. It was there that God spoke to me about having a clinic that combined His supernatural healing power with the natural realm to get people walking in divine health. In my nine months at Bethel, this word was confirmed several times by peers who had never heard me talk about my passion for healing and natural living; they clearly only knew because it was revealed to them by the Holy Spirit.  Once the school year was over, I headed back home to Spokane to pursue the credentials I would need to have a clinic of my own someday.

Over the next seven years of schooling I continually reminded myself of this plan God had for me; I held onto God’s promise time and time again when I wanted to quit. It was surreal passing the physical therapy license exam. I couldn’t believe I had done it – with God’s help of course. My dream of having a holistic clinic was finally in reach, but I still had no idea how God’s word to me would come to fruition. All I knew was I needed to take a leap of faith; faith is dead unless it has motion. So I prayed about what the name of this holistic clinic would be. As I reflected, I was reminded of the verse in Acts 17:28, “In Him, we live and move and have our being.” I knew this special verse would somehow be tied into the mission of the clinic, but I still didn’t have a business name. NOTHING stuck… until my mom recommended the name, “Health in Motion.” I liked it. In fact, I liked it a lot.

Several weeks later, I realized that Health in Motion abbreviated results in the acronym “HIM.” It was a perfect fit because “in HIM we live, and move and have our being.” Neither I nor my mom were aware of how Acts 17:28 and the business name she thought of were so connected. One thing is for sure, this business name only could have come from God. After all He birthed the dream in the first place.

If you find yourself on this page, know it is NOT by accident. The living and true God, Yahweh, led you here. It’s not by chance. I pray for those God would have me partner with. I pray His glory would be manifest in all creation and especially in YOU as you live, move and have your being.
